PRESS RELEASE 06.09.2023
Scharliina Eräpuro is an ambassador for NGO Protect Children and a strong advocate for children's rights. Her new music video, "Pieces of Me", has been produced in collaboration with Protect Children, breaking the silence around sexual violence against children. It provides information on a difficult phenomenon through the means of art and science. The music video is meant to empower survivors and contains direct quotes collected from Protect Children’s work to amplify the voices of survivors through research:
"I believe I was guilty of what happened"
The "Pieces of Me" music video amplifies the voice of adults who have experienced sexual violence in their childhood and raises awareness of the general cognitive distortions that the child victims have. With the new music video, Scharliina describes her own journey, meanwhile reflecting the journeys of other survivors.
With her song, Scharliina wants to shed light on the stories of other survivors and at the same time launch a significant charity initiative to support Protect Children’s work with the Our Voice group for survivors of child sexual abuse.
Protect Children is a Helsinki-based non-profit organization that takes a research-based holistic approach to prevent any child from being subject to sexual harassment, grooming, or any other form of sexual violence. Eräpuro acts as the organization's ambassador, enhancing the fight against child sexual abuse.
"I want to thank Scharliina for this extremely important collaboration and a innovative way to break the silence of child sexual abuse. By combining science with art, we are able to find new ways to shed light into the darkness of our society and bring more understanding and hope for healing and recovery.” States Nina Vaaranen-Valkonen, Executive Director of Protect Children.
Fifty percent of all royalties generated by the single will directly contribute to Protect Children's survivor initiative, funding projects that aid survivors on their journey to healing and resilience.
Scharliina, as a current “Miss Finland” finalist, brings her personal journey to light through the song aiming to inspire hope. The song serves as a call to action, encouraging listeners to become advocates for change, support Protect Children’s survivor work and fight to end all forms of sexual abuse and exploitation of children.
